Stewart’s Streak Ends At Lucky Number Seven
Nearly 62,000 fans piled into Indianapolis’ brand new Lucas Oil Stadium to witness one of the most competitive Supercross main events of the entire series on Saturday night. Though the excitement came at the expense of James Stewart’s seven-race win streak being snapped, the fans got exactly what they paid for, as JS7 and series rival Chad Reed put on an incredible show!
To kick off the evening, James took an impressive heat race win after having to catch and pass Reed who got off to a great start. With confidence and the night’s fastest lap times on his side, Stewart got a good jump out of the gate to start the main event, but came up a bit short in turn one, allowing Reed to sneak off with the holeshot. After crossing the finish line in second to conclude lap one, James set his sites on Reed up front, but unfortunately lost his front end on lap three, finding himself restarting from the fourth spot. After a long battle to work his way back up to the leader, Stewart was finally able to make a pass for the lead on lap 14, and looked to have the race well within his control. Unfortunately, just two laps later, another bobble left James on the ground for the second time, as Reed reestablished the lead, and eventually took the race win. James remounted quickly to finish the night in the second spot, but despite the hard charge and epic battle for the lead, his win streak would end at seven, and the championship points chase is now tied back up.
