WRIST SURGERY FORCES JAMES TO THE SIDELINES
James underwent successful surgery Friday afternoon to repair a broken scaphoid bone in his right wrist. Following last weekend’s race in Anaheim, where, after contemplating not even competing due to severe pain in his wrist following a crash in Phoenix the previous weekend, James rode valiantly to an impressive third-place finish.
Although initial x-rays after Phoenix did not indicate a break, an MRI performed on Thursday revealed that the bone was indeed broken. Surgery was performed by famed orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Arthur Ting, in Fremont, California.
As a result of the surgery, James will unfortunately not be competing in San Francisco this weekend. His return to racing will depend on how quickly he is able to recover post-surgery. He will be evaluated on a weekly basis, which will determine when he returns to the 2010 Supercross series.
“James is a true champion,” said L&M Racing’s Team Manager, Larry Brooks. “The fact that he rode as competitively as he did while making the podium at Anaheim 2 with a broken wrist (unknowingly) is testimony to that. He’s anxious to heal and get back on the track as soon as possible.”
Stay tuned for more details from James in the coming days…

Man!! Thankyou very much for signing a picture for me and my wife at Bert Mega Mall. But i’m most thankful for you signing my 01′ kx250. For the record, it’s not for sale any longer. I did want you to think I was trying to make money off your signature. Thankyou again. I’v been watting for the chance to meet you for 4 years now, and the way it went down, i could have not asked for anything more. I wanted to tell you my name was James too, and sake your hand, but after you got in the back of my Tundra and signed my bike. I did want you to think I was some crazy fan who was trying to be like you. Anyway man! Thanks again. Good luck with coming back, keep doing your thing.
Tough break on your wrist.
I think James needs to race the outdoor season IN 2010. I understand he is trying to surpass Jeremy McGrath’s record of 72 career SX wins, but if his SX season is over, then sitting out and racing against local riders who are not racing at the highest levels of the sport (while awating the 2011 SX season) can only hurt him. James is in his prime, but MX/SX racers start so young and careers are usually over by the age of 27 as these riders have often competed seen they were as young as 5 years old. Therefore, James should really consider getting back in the game outdoors. Jeremy McGrath was not a great outdoor rider, but I also believe like Chad Reed, he did not do himself any favors by racing SX only. Ryan Dungy was able to run with James those first couple of races because he was conditioned by riding all year long at the highest level of the sport, though it appears he has ran out of juice since James got hurt, but the point was made. When James heals, he needs to get back in the MX game, because his competition is only improving (hence Dungy’s performance). Just some things to think about.
