WRIST SURGERY FORCES JAMES TO THE SIDELINES

James underwent successful surgery Friday afternoon to repair a broken scaphoid bone in his right wrist. Following last weekend’s race in Anaheim, where, after contemplating not even competing due to severe pain in his wrist following a crash in Phoenix the previous weekend, James rode valiantly to an impressive third-place finish.

Although initial x-rays after Phoenix did not indicate a break, an MRI performed on Thursday revealed that the bone was indeed broken. Surgery was performed by famed orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Arthur Ting, in Fremont, California.

As a result of the surgery, James will unfortunately not be competing in San Francisco this weekend. His return to racing will depend on how quickly he is able to recover post-surgery. He will be evaluated on a weekly basis, which will determine when he returns to the 2010 Supercross series.

“James is a true champion,” said L&M Racing’s Team Manager, Larry Brooks. “The fact that he rode as competitively as he did while making the podium at Anaheim 2 with a broken wrist (unknowingly) is testimony to that. He’s anxious to heal and get back on the track as soon as possible.”

Stay tuned for more details from James in the coming days…

James if you read this— Happy healing dude (south beach?).

The majority of the people posting here know little about what goes on behind the scenes, Chad has always had a chip on his shoulder and an attitude to match… Now that Rodger is no longer his boss just watch the old Reed will shine again, making comments on the podium, throwing stuff in the pits, whining whining whining all the time… Don’t get me wrong James gets frustrated too, he will show emotions after a heat/race but give him ten minutes and that s**t eatin grin will be plastered onto his face again… There both full of themselves, and who would expect anything different there racers at the top of there level. The difference is attitude, James is kinda shy and always offers up a smile and Chad, is the “what do you want now” kind of guy.

    GO K-Dub!

    • BC says:

Chad has never been like that and would never be. He is just as shy and hates the attention away from the actual race day (or even off his bike). I know I am totally different on race day when I have a job to do. Like every other racer who doesn’t want to be the first loser…

  2. Doc "T" says:

Hope that your surgery went well, scafoid Fx’s are a bummer to have and take some time to heal. Hopefully the part that you injured has a rich blood supply to it, so that you heal faster. Keep your spirits up man, and try not to get too bummed out and rush back to quickly. It’s going would be pretty awesome to see both you and Malcolm stepping out in 2011 his (debut and your return). God speed man!

  3. CP20 says:

To everyone talking disrespectfully towards James.

Someone asked basically why does everyone let James get away with “dirty” passes. Well because he isn’t dirty… If he makes contact he doesn’t take rider out much less himself.

Another poster said it was his fault to get landed on by Partridge…HA! He didnt change lines in the air, he had no where to go seeing it was the first lap and the section was jammed. Shit happens, no ones fault.

Chad Reed IS at fault for taking James out with that block pass. CR should have known better than to make an aggressive pass on an Injured JS especially on, was it lap 5/20? If it were Stewart out there making that pass on Reed, neither rider would have been down.

It’s no surprise for me to tell anyone that Chad Reed has a passing issue. He is a great rider. He can make some smart decisions most of the time. But CR just doesn’t know to pass anybody for some reason. Probably his confidence wouldn’t be too far off, seeing as how he mostly ends up on the ground after trying to pass James…

  4. Gil1979 says:

Man sorry to hear about your wrist, glad you realized it was better to stop trying to ride with the pain and just stop and take care or it. In the long run you made the right choice. Good luck with the recovery and make sure you let it heal right, miss you and can’t wait to see you back where you belong on your bike kicking ass, In the mean time its still exciting to see the rest of the guys race cause they can kick ass too!!!!!!! JS7 #1 GOOD LUCK HURRY BACK

  5. John says:

Take care of that wrist and come back and kick some as*. Podium finish on a bum wrist. JS7 is the best.

  6. Ryan says:

If James plays it smart like he did at Anaheim 1, he could still take the championship. Although it’s a lot more fun to watch James win by almost a whole lap, he’s going to need more than a handfull of 1st places to get it done this time, and the only way to get it done is to ride like Chad (and then ride like James Stewart the last 4 laps).

  7. Cory Teeple says:

Wishing u a speedy recovery and God bless Champ!

My son and I hope to see u in Toronto March 13. Our fingers are crossed.

All the best, from your true north fans FULL THROTTLE EH!!!

  8. Lucas Brazil says:

you are already a big winner, the best driver ever seen in my opinion, the Supercross ended without you … but let’s hope for a big comeback, because you do not run the AMA Motocross agent not to miss? I am Brazilian and I am an eternal fan of his!

  9. digger says:

Heres my take on this james and rc are the fastest supercross riders ever with james having a little more speed and raw talent. outdoors no one ever had rc sucess even if they have the same speed they can not hang for 2 motos watch the tapes. james first crash when he got landed on was all his fault you cannot switch lines in the air without checking first. in fact he admitted it. the reed crash was no ones fault chad did not stuff him he actually cut down but so did james and he was already committed end of story. james needs to relize he has to be a bit more careful but thats why hes fun to watch. he is not a dirty rider but he passes with authority which is a fine line between the two. as far as some of you saying get better and go whip rd and rv they are fast, maybe james would of won but we will never know. james should come back and race mx and he probaly will win and that would help him for next year. BUT MARK MY WORDS if james does not drop all his sidetracking lifestyle and start focusing on100% racing his career will be shorter than expected by all. rd and rv and some others will never look back. his raw talent will carry him aways but not as long as you think. there was a guy named mcgrath that was awesome but along came rc and boom it was over rc was hungry mcgrath was sidetracked and thought he was fast enough. just so you know i like all the riders i have mentioned and when you blame james or reed for everthing its not even worth reading.

    • BC says:

      Well said Digger.

      • BC says:

I seem to remember James jumping on RC at Unadilla one year and no one carried on like this.

In Australia their Supercross tracks are mainly Arenacross size. The motocross tracks have been the same for around 30 years and I applaude Chad, Burner, Reardon, the Moss brothers, JEFF LEISK and othersfor all for being able to adapt to larger tracks and be competitive here. They don’t have Lorretta Lynns and full blown junior titles over there. It is a sport that we all do for the fun of it and the reason James and Chad do it. Money has changed alot of the way they approach it now, but they still are very competitive guys who hate to lose. This leads to the situations they both get themselves into on the tracks. The only thing that I don’t like is when it continues off the track. James pushing Reeds bike of its stand is not cool.

  10. Adam 614 says:

Reed is such a Puss* Stewart wouldn’t hang out with someone like him! Bubba will come back and hopefully podium this season, and he’ll rail the nationals too!

  11. amy says:

We missed you in S.F. Have a speedy recovery!

  12. Wyatt Roersma says:

Hey James please tell us… Do you expect to come back and ride this season? Do you plan on racing motocross because you can no longer chase the supercross title

  13. craigostl says:

You think James and Chad are hanging out together talking about there hands? CAN WE ALL SAY CARMA!!

  14. David says:

Good luck James, hope you have a speedy recovery, you are a true champion.See you in Dallas in March.

  15. joey richmond says:

good luck on the recovery man hope to see you at indy next month!!

  16. it seems as every time you are going to defend your championship you get injured :( well i hope your recovery goes well and quick so you can come out and kick some ass like the normal James Stewart does. one thing is certain, there is no rider out on the track that can match your pace. good luck and hope all is well with you, see you soon back on the bike.

  17. Michael Corsey says:

James, I enjoy watching you race, because you have changed the sport with your incredible abilities. You are the fastest guy I have seen in my 35 plus years of watching Supercross and Motocross. I look forward to seeing you in action at Budds Creek. Take the time to heal properly and try to forgive Reed for his actions. You will be better off to put it behind you and win more championships. I wish you the best on and off the track.

  18. Dyani says:

Man, i was sooo bummed when i read the news! I feel like i dont want to watch supercross anymore without stewart! But im still going to, but anyways, james YOU ARE NUMBER ONE!!!! heal up quick and go out there and DESTROY THE FIELD!!!! greetings from norway, all the best to the worlds best and fastest man in the world!!!!

  19. DirtRida93 says:

    James Stewart is a beast…. Hey best of luck 2 u in ur recovery man… JS7 #1!!!!!

  20. george08 says:

i,m a big stewert fan but also a reed fan i dont believe there was any bad intentions on reeds part at phoenix riders were blocking james exit and if you have it recorded i dont believe stewert ment to pull reed off his bike land on his hand and break it i think its just racing.

    • ma72bike says:

Naw… Reed i did mean it. He is a jerk.

    • mxannouncer says:

James landing on Reed’s hand did not break it.
Chad drove into James’ front wheel. The front tire to front tire impact ripped the bars out of James’ hands and the handlebar swung across the top of Reed’s hand fracturing it.

    • mxannouncer says:

I was at A2 i knew you were hurt thats why you were doing the whoops so front wheel high.
It is amazing, a testimate to your training and heart.
A podium with a broken wrist= Heart of a champion.
You will be back soon. real soon.

    • jay109 says:

your wack george08…..how can you be a stewart fan and a reed fan?….reeds washed up!

    • BC says:

And I agree. At the pace they race at, it takes the racing being taped to see what happened. And the tape needs to be watched with both eyes open and not just the one eye you see James in. The guys infront of James slowed him up, he had to turn tighter than he expected and Chad arrived at that moment. Chad may have been hot in there under those circumstances, but not if James hadn’t turned so tight.

      • motomike says:

You better watch again, Chad had the choice and made the choice to risk the crash, in the process he got what he deserved. I doubt James hand was broken then it was probably broken when he was landed on. Chad sucks and he knows it thats why he races the way he does and allways looks like he wants to cry when he’s not first (which is only when james or rc got hurt). I wanted to like chad but he is a dirty rider and just can’t run james pace. Look at the way he chased James all the way off the track last year at Vegas in spite of the fact that James was giving him the pass. Chad Reed is a poor sport and a cry Baby

      • CP20 says:

“Chad may have been hot in there under those circumstances, but not if James hadn’t turned so tight.”

So James isn’t allowed to protect his line? Why should James worry about where the person behind him goes?

CR is no rookie. He should know better than to come in hot with a block pass on an injured JS. Sure, I believe it might be an accident. But CR was the only one who could prevent it from happening. It was early in the race. It would’ve obviously worked out better if the veteran was a little more patient on his passing decisions.

        • BC says:

I’m saying it is a racing incident. Chad should have played follow the leader? And not create an opportunity to overtake? If Chad had of know that James was going to have avoid the other riders, he would not have put himself in that position, guaranteed.

I think that Chad is racing above the preperation he gave himself over the break and that he would have been better off not go to Australia to race as he has no competition there. He (like James) a very competitive person and this can lead to over excited baad decisions. I have seen RC go James for poor race decisions and this is all part of it. I still don’t talk to guys I raced 15 years against due to bad RACING decisions. But that is how it is.

I can guarantee you that both James and CR will be training in every other way they can while they heal. Way too much one sided opinions here (being that is Bubbas site).

Everyone just needs to take a chill pill and enjoy the racing!

          • CP20 says:

Chad SHOULD have played follow the leader on lap 5 of 20 especially on JS unless he’s obviously clear to make a pass. It was just too early in the race to throw a pass like that, even if Chad actually had completed the pass, he only would have given JS a little ignited flame to pass him right up (which makes for awesome racing) But anyway, CR has been a veteran quite a bit longer than James has and those kind of mistakes should be frowned upon especially on CR seeing as experience wise it makes sense for him to be the smarter rider. Not saying he’s not a smart rider. He is. I wouldn’t hold any sort of grudge against Chad if he hasn’t consistently proved that he keeps making these sort of “Bad racing decisions”.

Anywho, I’m not trying to come off rude or angry. Just expressing my opinions the way I see them.

  21. jrp295 says:

Hey James… sorry to hear the bad news but glad to hear it was a successful surgery! I watch sx now and its not the same! I only watch it now to see how many points your down and what it would take for you to come back and win it…. but my advice would be to chill out and recover to 100% There’s no point doing what you love the most…whilst in pain! Come back when your ready! I am looking forward to your return already! JS1! p.s you need to be drinkin that milk J!

  22. Mark P says:

Good luck, James. I know you’kk make a speedy recovery and remind those guys who’s still the best in the entire sport. Consider running outdoors again too, Bubba. You’re missed in any event where you can decimate the competition!

  23. Mega says:

Do what you gotta do to get back on race. That’s the only think, what makes you happy…
Something missing out there, i think it’s you.

  24. KEIVEN MX75 says:

i think u good rider an all, but i think u lost a lot of fans scents u haven’t raced any outdoors national and given alot of rider confindents and speed to beat u.A rider can’t race sx & mx 4 the rest of there life. Pls man u need rack as much wins in the supercross & outdoors & pass there records & be know as the best sx &mx rider ever live!!!!!!!

  25. Todd M says:

Sx is not the same without your style on the track, I can honestly say I like all the riders and dont care who wins, as long as it isn’t Chad Reed.
Get healthy James and good luck!

  26. mxmmmx says:

I’m a Stewart fan and sorry to here he has a injury that will keep him from entertaining all of us in the next few SX races. I do have one complaint, I think its lame how he knew he was going to be out of the San Francisco race earlier in the week and waits until the day of the event to post he will be out. I bet allot of people drove to the race excited to see him and he wasn’t there. Some people might not of even showed up if they knew Stewart wasn’t going to be there. I will still continue to watch SX and cant wait to see Stewart back racing at 100%.

    • SXFAN says:

Thats true….I was bummed but not surprised that JS didnt race on Saturday. I didnt go to the race but watch it today on CBS. Pretty sure if I knew he wasnt going to race I wouldnt of recorded it on my DVR. Im sure glad I did because it was still exciting and fun to watch. Dungy got a rude awakening to the “hero to goat” philosiphy and Im glad to see Villipoto gaining some ground on the pack. Hopefully James will get back in there with just enough time to make it a 3 to 5 rider shootout by the time they get to Vegas.

ps. is it me or do you or anybody feel that Josh Hill feels that he should be the number guy at L & M Racing. Maybe this is different but I thought teams had a #1 rider and then the #2 rider. I might be wrong.

  27. Shawn says:

Bubba, sorry to hear about your wrist. I give you mad respect for trying last weekend. I broke both bones in my right wrist last year coming up short on a step up. Took for ever to heal. I was off my bike for 3 months. Rehab hurt more that the actual crash did. Dont rush it bro, it wont heal right. Supercross is going to be lame this year without you. Hope your contract lets you race outdoors, otherwise Alessi is going to sweep it. Keep sending weekly updates on your website or transworld to keep us informed. Get well soon champ!!!!

  28. TR says:

James I hate that you are not out there doing what you do best………..Winning!! There will always be haters when you excel at things that others don’t feel you should be doing in the first place. You are the BEST out there and I hope you get well soon so that you can compete and entertain ME your #1 fan as you have for so many years! Good Luck and heal so that you can come back strong!

  29. vanessa says:

Hope you recovery well and soon , God bless you .
    YOU ARE OUR #1

  30. big fan says:

Please ride the outdoors for your fans. Truthfully I think that some of these new riders are a little bit faster than alot of people thought. The outdoors was a training camp for the new riders to prepare for you. Think about it no one thought Dungey would be this fast, Suzuki put it all on him and dumped reed. They new what they were doing, he is proving himself, but lets see how long it last. I’m goinh with Hill now because he;s your team mate

  31. Gail Gardenhire says:

Hey Bubba, hope you get well soon.Last year I got to see you live in Atlanta,I only yell for you. Hope to see you this year.My husband and I watch you on tv every week.Like they say your the man.

  32. HotRod151 says:

Just heard the news sitting in my garage yesterday working on the bikes. I fealt like I had to cry. You know I used to race your dad “Big James” around Florida, and at amateur SX events and I would see you around riding a 50. I new were destined for greatness. Email me some picks of your wrist after surgery. P.S. Mike B. Good luck and heal up.

  33. Well spoken. I have to research more on this as it is really vital info

  34. Ricardo says:

I hope that stewart come back quickly to the tracks because Supercross without “The Seven” isn’t Supercross.

PS:sorry for the english but i’m portuguese :P

  35. ranks75 says:

    It’s all about the outdoors now. 24 - 0 !!

  36. T-ROB says:

James sorry to hear about this injury I hope to see you back soon, but get healthy first, always remember no matter what anyone else says take care of you first and everything else will come.
Plus that #1 plate is yours until you are beaten getting any other way just ain’t the same, don’t belive me ask chad. LOL

  37. BC says:

First time here as I feel very strongly about this.
Why when James squares off on a rider, it isn’t dirty riding or ‘disrespect’? But when James does it, it is an amazing piece of riding? Yes he is a very good rider. Yes he attracts a crowd. But I’m sure as many people turn up to see him get beat as they do to see him win.

I think this year could be the best for a long time due to the depth of talent. I think James has suffered from not riding the mx season and it shows. I think he is also very surprised at how fast everyone is going.

Alot of the crashes he has had this year are because he is amongst other riders (unlike previous years). Not due to Chad being a dirty rider or other riders giving it back to him. Yes he is an athelete. But he is one on the edge ALL the time and that creates its own mistakes and crashes.

Chad being made out to be the bad guy really is unfair on a guy who gives 100% every time he goes out there and this is why he gets James fired up. The incident where Chad and James came together is part of racing. You can not tell me that James was forced to turn sharper than intended due to another rider and Chad got in there hot so he could make the move. The end result was Chad colliding with James as James was turning and trying to keep his balance. Being a super competitive mx guy for around 35 years, I know I would have pushed the other rider off me so I could get on the bike again and get as many points as possible.

I hope both James and Chad get better real quick as they do make the racing very entertaining! But I also hope that the top guys that are still there are able to give it to the two of them again when they do come back.

    • Brady Peterson says:

chad reed is just bitter cause the only time he won a champonship is when Stewart or Carmichael was hurt and he has realized the only way he can get another number 1 plate is to take stewart out.. racing is one thing but tempting to hurt someone to win a championship (as shown in vegas last year) is not the respectful way to win a championship. you don’t see stewat doing the same thing to him because he doesn’t need to. reed should just realize his place in supercross which is top 5 at best and quit being jealous and taking out the talent because he cant hang. hope for a quick rehab stewart cause i wanna see you own in dallas!

  38. bear says:

james hope you have a speedy recovery hope to see on that track next week

  39. BTO7 says:

I hate to say i said so but…..i wrote several months ago when Yamaha allowed james to ride supercross only that that was a very bad decision. I said you lose your tiny edge and can get hurt. They put all their eggs in one basket for just a supercross …pay tons of money and allow a rider to ride just half a season (which is a slap to motocross in general) and here we have it. James while still having speed was a bit off on his starts ….hmmm could this be due to the fact of the lay off? This supercross only crap is bull ….never happened in the old days and im GLAD to see Yamaha is getting it in the pocket book now for allowing this in the first place. There you guys go …allow your best rider to sit out …pay a ton of money and are out the money and the rider in the first couple weeks. Ive raced for 30 yrs and maybe all the factory teams should think about his supercross only deal stuff. If james had raced outdoors… more then likely would have won….been in a bit better shape…. his off the gate reaction time would not have had time to be off by a few thousandths and at the very worse would of had a outdoor tile to boot. You need to race year round to stay sharp…practice is just not the same as racing and while i love james and his talent i blame Yamaha for allowing this …and letting their rider get a tad bit soft with the idea it was in the bag before it started and now paying the price. Great corporate decision there guys…read em and weep. James i hope you get better soon….and let this be a lesson to all factory teams before allowing a supercross only schedule. Riding is a job and people work year round. Looks the number 1 plate will we worn elsewhere now good going…sigh.

    • Brad G says:

Get out of here, your a psycho BRO!!!!!! Your not Steve Matthes, so don’t go trying to write on this site like any of us want to hear what you have to say!!!!! What do you know about contracts? NNNEEERRRRRDDDDSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • keith says:

thank you bto7.when i raced AMA that was the deal.contracts were both.either 1 or 2 years all year long.if you wanted to sit out one you lost track time which we all know hurts you alot.ricky carmichael is the GOAT because he wanted to win because thats what he loved.he rode all year and never said never.look at all these really gifted kids now days that can’t get rides because of factory teams not having enough money.james stewart is a very fast rider but i wish he would ride both and show that he is the same guy as the 259 we all watch grow up!!!!!hi five BTO7!!!!!!!!!

  40. marko says:

All the best man…..wishing you a quick recovery and hope to see on the track soon. Was hoping to see Dungeys arrogant butt whopped this weekend. Well, you still the man

  41. me says:

I was really looking forward to seeing you put RD in his place this weekend but thats not going to happen I guess. Ill be rooting for hill and RV then.

This might just be something that happened saying you need to ride mx again. No..but I hope you get well soon. But try to ride mx this year haha

  42. keith says:

well i thought you were gonna dominate this year but it is sad to see all the money paid out to another over paid athlete.i think it sucks because you have beaten ricky straight up sometimes and here comes dungey and destroys you and now no one will see you ride till sx 2011.well its too bad hope you get better and maybe if the money doesn’t get in the way we can see a new james stewart that loves motorcycles not just the money!!!!!!all the respect to you but just wish sx and mx racing would be for love not just about money.

    • Karol says:

Well I don’t think James is in it just for the money at all. He is a true athlete just like the
rest of them. And I think you are to harsh on the situation. Give the kid a break.

      • keith says:

he does it for the money, trust me when or if you were an AMA pro you would know what it costs.we are not always safe out there and when it goes wrong we are the ones that pay the medical bill.the original 259 is the man i remember watching and thats the kid i watched at loretta’s and earn all that money.i too hold a pro AMA license and work with kids to get them ready for racing in the ‘big’ time,so i know what it takes..

    • SXFAN says:

ahhh..Im not sure if you watched that race but Dungey came in second. He was on James’ ass but he wasnt going to win that race. The 2nd race of course was the crash and the 3rd it took Dungey a while to get by James and his broken wrist. Dungey is good but I still think he will be a true contender next year. If James doesnt come back, this season it is NOT Dungey’s to lose. There is some much other competition and its a long season. If you watched SF on Saturday, case in point, Dungey looked like everyone else out there. He had trouble staying on his bike, so before you start crowning the kid as the SX champ of ‘10 see who’s charging up from behind.

      • keith says:

mathmatically stewart cant win the championship this year even if he wins every race from here on out.25 for first and 22 for second.our sport is very much unpredictable but these riders are more consistant and dungey works with carmichael and i can say he is a very well guided rider.

    • Brad G says:

F off Bro, your not welcome here. THis site is for fans, not fags, so pullem out of your rear and go stuff one to reeds site.

  43. shaun whips it says:

sorry to hear about your wrist …. you have alot of heart for sure … get well hope to see you back at the track when your 100%

  44. cycleguy says:

Do what you have to do to get better, I hope you don’t lose the # 1 plate but , RD is looking good. That big Suzuki has mad power and he can handle it, I don’t think anyone has anything for him but you.

    Do your thang..

  45. GATOE says:

    LIVE AND LEARN…….

  46. Richard says:

well that sucks!, oh well i guess you will be back by the time reed does half way..maybe Ryan is going to take that number 1 plate now. but you are super human so maybe your write will head by event 5! Love you james keep on riding

  47. ILove_MX says:

Well Bubba, for me this is really “Shocking” sad news!!! I saw some picture of you after A2 main event and I could see that you were in pain … I guess now there are two places that you don’t really like it at all Phoenix and Unadilla, bad for me cause’ I’m from NY.
At this point the good news is that everything went Ok with your surgery and now is time to rest till you fell 100% and come back strong as you are.
Hope to see you soon on your bike … Good luck …

  48. Dustin says:

So sorry to hear that James. We were really looking forward to seeing you at Anaheim 3. Im sure it will be for the better. Good luck and heal quickly buddy. See ya soon.

  49. MJ says:

James you’re one tough SOB..i hope you have a speedy recovery and get back out there…You’re the man!!
