James Stewart Blog, Motocross and Supercross Racing News, Interviews & Personal Thoughts

James’ pre-Nationals visit to DMXS Radio, as well as a recent leak in information on the Facebook page of his trusty gear sponsor Answer Racing, has led to a ton of speculation and hardcore bench racing regarding the former National MX champ’s return to racing this summer. Though his nagging, slow-healing wrist injury prevented his return to racing by the 2010 Pro Motocross Championship series opener at Hangtown, James has been focused and determined to join the series just as soon as humanly possible. With a recent blessing from his doctor to make a slow, pain-dependent return to riding, James now has his head down in an attempt to get back up to racing speed in the coming few weeks. Here’s a quick word from James on his progress and potential return…

“I’m working hard every day in the gym, and I’m also starting to ride more and more in hopes of making a strong comeback before the end of the Nationals. My goal right now is to make it back for the last four races [Unadilla, Southwick, Steel City, and Pala]—that’s the hope—but we are assessing my riding everyday to see if that time frame is actually possible. As soon as my team and I make a firm commitment to attend a race, my fans will be the first to know at JS7.com!”

The rumors have been circulating for quite a while now, and it’s time to announce that the rumors are absolutely true! James will be competing this coming weekend (July 10th) at the Red Bull Flugtag in Miami, Florida aboard the most bizarre YZ450F you’ve ever seen! What in the world is Flugtag, you might ask?

Red Bull Flugtag challenges teams of everyday people to build homemade, human-powered flying machines and pilot them off a 30-foot high deck in hopes of achieving flight! Flugtag may mean “flying day” in German, but all these crafts ultimately splash into the waters below. They are judged not only on their flight’s distance, but creativity and showmanship, as well.

To help challenge the flight record that currently stands at 155 feet, James enlisted the engineering help of Randy Yoho to modify his Yami, and the human rocket power of good friends Anthony Paggio and Eric Sorby to help get him off the ground.

Okay, we know what you’re thinking… Judging from these whip photos, James has really been riding for quite some time now, but keeping it a secret on his private track at home in Florida. Wrong! This gallery is literally from James Stewart’s first day back on a bike after more than four months off… And while Stewart’s wrist was a bit sore after throwing these upside-down beauties (which was to be expected), even James himself was pretty amazed at how his whips somehow managed to get even BIGGER during all that time off.
