James to Race in Monster Energy Cup

Feld Motor Sports® announced today that James Stewart, of Haines City, Fla., will race the inaugural Monster Energy Cup at Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium on October 15.

Stewart, a former two-time Supercross class champion, racing for San Manuel Yamaha, is a heavy favorite to claim the $1 Million that will be paid to any rider that wins all three main events.

“I definitely look forward to a new look and feel,” said Stewart. “That’s a lot of money for one night, and the chances of being able to win it is, of course, very appealing, but there will be a lot of guys with this same thought so we need to just focus on the race.”

Third on the all-time Supercross class win list, Stewart owns 42 main event wins since moving to the premier class in 2004. Stewart is no stranger to winning at Sam Boyd Stadium, posting two premier class wins and a Lites class win.

“Although it’s in the same stadium it’s a new night and a new race format and I am glad to just have the opportunity to be a part of it,” Stewart added.

With supercross/motocross icons Jeremy McGrath and Ricky Carmichael as the race’s official track designers, Stewart looks forward to the unique design they develop.

“I believe they will put together a great track, but I also wonder how crazy it will be,” said Stewart. “These guys know what (tough) obstacles are – the ones that are very demanding. I’m sure they will want to put us through the ringer, but I would do the same if I were in their position, so bring it on.”

And bring it  he will.

The unique hybrid track will consist of supercross/motocross terrain and will have a tremendous motocross-style influence, making it unlike any other stadium race in the world. This track will be the perfect blend of supercross and motocross combined and created into the ultimate battleground. The Monster Energy Cup posts a $250,000 purse with the winner walking away with a $100,000 check, and for the “first time ever” $1 Million will be paid to a rider that wins all three main events.

News About the Motocross Season

Everyone witnessed the way I struggled during the Supercross series this year and while I’d like to race this weekend, we just aren’t ready. I hope fans will understand.  The decision has been very hard to make, but we won’t race till we’re ready.

JS7 Dealt A Bad Hand In Sin City

“JS7 Dealt a Bad Hand in Sin City”. The headline pretty much sums up what James has been feeling throughout the bulk of the 2011 AMA Supercross series. Though he’s the first to admit that some of his misfortune has been brought on by his own mistakes, there’s no doubt that bad luck and a series of bad hands got the best of James’ title hopes in 2011. With 16 grueling rounds of action already in the books and the championship all but out of sight, JS7 rolled into Las Vegas hoping for a series-ending win to highlight an otherwise up and down season. Unfortunately for James, a win just wasn’t in the cards tonight in Sin City, and the mighty number 7 will have to wait until 2012 to grace the SX podium once again.

SUPERCROSS QUALIFYING HEATS

• When the gates dropped for Supercross Heat #1, James rocketed down the long Vegas start straight to grab the holeshot and early lead.
• Halfway through the eight-lap heat race, JS7 set the fastest lap of the entire day with a 101.61—over a full second quicker than second-fastest Chad Reed.
• Looking absolutely flawless on the slick, challenging Sam Boyd Stadium circuit, James motored away from the rest of the pack, eventually winning by a whopping 14 seconds.

SUPERCROSS MAIN EVENT

• With 20 of the world’s fastest Supercross riders amped and ready for the final main event of the 2011 series, the gates dropped, and James immediately worked his way into the second spot before the end of lap one.
• After a multi-lap battle with Supercross veteran Kevin Windham, JS7 made a pass for the lead on lap four.
• Pushing the envelope while trying to pull away from the pack, James made a critical mistake in the whoops on lap number seven, and went down hard on the rigid Vegas soil.
• Unable to rejoin the race due to an injured foot, JS7′s hopes of a Vegas win ended in a flash.
• Though proving himself as the quickest man on the track at the majority of the 17 rounds of action this season, James was cursed with bad luck and misfortune, and sadly had to settle for fourth overall in the championship points standings.
